Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Throne: Hafez Muhammad Multani[Goldsmith] made a throne for Maharaja Ranjit Singh   between 1820 to 1830. The throne’s outer surface was engraved with gold sheets and inside was made of wood and resin core. This throne is composed of two tiers of lotus petals. SCIENCE BEHIND SUPERSTITION

Do not sleep along the north direction:

Indian mythology says that sleeping with your head on the north direction is not the right thing to do. You could have faced incomplete sleep or nightmares when you sleep along the north. Have you ever wondered why? Ever heard a story from your grandma or your grandpa supporting this superstition?

The story goes like this..When lord Shiva unknowingly cut off lord Ganesha’s head (who, he later realized to be his son). Lord Shiva felt very bad wishing he could make up for his terrible mistake. So he ordered his men to search throughout the land to get the first person who is sleeping facing north. Unfortunately they could only find an elephant that slept along north direction. Later the elephant was beheaded and fixed for Ganesha’s head. This is the story our ancestors.

But the actual science behind the superstition is magnetism. As we speak, magnetic field lines are passing from North Pole to South Pole of the earth. Which means sleeping along the north causes the positive pole of your body and the positive pole of earth to repel each other. This might result in the distress, you face time-to-time like nightmares, heavy-headedness, head ache etc…

Do not wear black dresses during auspicious occasions:

From those ancient days to this day many things have changed but few things remain the same. One among such things is, restriction to wearing black color dress while entering into a temple.

This is because, the color Black is considered for symbolizing sorrow and failure. Some say that black color is liked by devils or it symbolizes devils.

The actual science behind this Superstition is that normally black color absorbs heat and holds it within. Considering Indians to be slightly dark skinned and given that India is a hot country, there is a possibility of heatstroke and other related concerns. Due to this reasons in ancient days our ancestors avoided wearing black or dark colored dresses.

Worshiping tulsi as a daily routine:

Tulsi is the most sacred plant which we use as a offering for lord Vishnu during pooja. In Hinduism, Tulsi is considered to be the home for goddess Lakshmi.

Apart from religious beliefs Tulsi has numerous medicinal properties, it helps in boosting our body's metabolism and to maintain the proper functioning of our digestive system. This keeps us at better health despite our pollution corrupted lives in the long run. Tulsi also has proven to cure cold, headache, in quiet a lot cases heart diseases, stomach infections and so on. Due to these miraculous properties nowadays, Tulsi is being tested in cosmetics. Not to mention, tulsi is a wide used mosquito repellent from nature.

Why we should not sleep under trees during night times?

Creepy and scary stories about spirits haunting humans, that prefer to sleep beneath trees during night times are nothing more than fantasies. The reasons behind these are simple science concepts.

Trees release increased amounts of carbon-di-oxide during night times. This might result is lack of oxygen for our body, which could cause problems like suffocation, intake of carbon-di-oxide into the system, at extreme cases this might lead to collapse in our nervous systems.

The tradition of putting kolam on cow dung

Our ancestor followed this tradition of using cow dung before putting rangoli. In those days, houses were build on a floor of mud. Spraying cow dung on the ground has effective properties of repelling insects and poisonous creatures. But nowadays these traditions disappeared in many places. Mud floors are all changed into concrete buildings. But, even today, we can see this routine in some homes in villages. Plus they also use rice flour to make kolam/rangoli. An interesting fact behind using these mixture of flours can ensure that little insects like ants eat them.

Hope you learned and enjoyed from our little article that related science and our tradition. If you did, please show us your support by leaving a comment and a like .

Thank you .
